PPS, PHL – Day 2 – 18.07.18 –

Slept OK, not too great, but I also wanted to wake up early so that I could take advantage of the day. I woke up at 2:45AM, and then I think I went back to sleep a little bit, and then got up at around 5:40AM. Went outside and checked out the beach a little bit, and saw a beautiful sunrise.

Did a morning Y&M. It was magical. You’re out on this veranda and then you look out and you see the ocean waves lapping against the beach with those wonderful sounds. Really soothing. Also, it is HAWTAs I was in it I was POURING sweat. I think I had 1.5 liters of water just in the morning. We’ll come back to this water tabulation throughout/at the end of this post.

Got wrapped up at around 8:15AM and quickly made my way to the breakfast buffet. Monched pretty hard. They had these juices, a cucumber lemonade and another pink one that were really delicious. Didn’t have coffee…as I was going to get a massage! These massages are one hour for $16. You can’t beat that.

Lorena/Lorraine was a little late because of the distance she lives from the resort. Not a problem. Got on that table and she got to WORK. She said that my never were ‘tired’, which was interesting because I felt great! Must be all that toiling with the kids all year lol.

Got wrapped up the massage and the sunshine was VIBRANT and everywhere. Went back to the room to drop off my stuff, and got lathered up in that sunblock. I had to do my best to dry myself as quickly as possible, and then put it on before the sweating began. Oh yes, so I chugged another two bottles of water at this point, so we were at 2.5 liters (3.875 is a gallon, what I usually cart around on the daily).

Made my way to the pool to lay out and lounge. WOW, what a scenic backdrop. Mountains in the background, pool in the foreground. Did I mention it was hot? Although the forecast said its as 88, humidity was in the 80th percentile.

I couldn’t hydrate fast enough. Hand another 2 liters at the pool. Was at the pool for around an hour, going in every now and then and then re-applying all the sunblocks. Popped in for the usual sautéed vegetables for lunch. Didn’t want to feel super heavy because it was so hot, also, I ain’t trying to do what I did last year which was multiple course at each meal with no exercise. Ya boy was backing on some poundage.

Ok, had those vegetables, got back to the room and lathered up again before heading to the beach. Surprisingly there were very few people on the beach. Also the sun was hot. Had another x amount of bottles of water, moving between the water, shade, and sun. Mostly shade though.

Was feeling a little drained I think. I think the power of the sun and the change from NZ/AUS weather to the heat threw me for a loop. Got back to the room and decided to an easier Y&M, and it got me RIGHT. This takes us to around 5PM, and the sun was ever so slightly setting and the water was just calling me. Got the trunks back on and got back in the water. Y’all already know that large bodies of water (especially when all powerful and deeper than I am) and I tend to stay at opposite ends of the spectrum…out of respect, nothing to do with the fact that I’m a horrific swimmer.

SO, that I was able to get into the water shows you how calm and warm the water was. It felt great, and I felt really refreshed as I made my way in and out and onto the beach for some photos. The sky was this lustrey shade of blue and it was the perfect end to such a wonderful day.

Went back to the room, got cleaned up, and then made my way to have dinner. Got that sauvignon blanc again, and this time opted for some calamari which sat kind of heavy. Got the pan-seared catch of the day and my sautéed veggies as the complement.

Wrapped up dinner and made my way back to the room. I tried to get some blogging done but the connection at the room wasn’t very good. Also sipped on some water. Which brings me back. I had almost 9 liters of water, nearly two gallons today. That is the most I have ever drank in a day.

Worst comes to worst, I will update the text portion and put up the photos when I can.

Went to bed reflecting on how lucky I am to be able to live this life. Don’t know what I’ve done to deserve this, but man, today was truly magical. Biggest of hugs and all the love to everyone following along.

  1. Looking great, Venkat! Love the pics. Meteorologist in the Philippines must be the most boring job 99% of the time–that forecast tho!

  2. So awesome that you got in the water! I feel like such a “proud Mama” of sorts. Good grief, how many times did I try to get you to put your face in the water! Alisha would be proud too. She’ll start expecting you to swim with her at the beach you know. Good luck keeping up with her!

    1. Lol! My goodness both you AND MOM tried so hard to get me to take a liking to the water. Even bribing me with fries that one time in the Poconos just to put my head in the water. And I refused. I mean, will power and fortitude, right? LOL, tell Smeesh she gonna need to chill and lower her expectations. Imma need more than luck to keep up with her, or James.

  3. That dinner, a great spread! Healthy but not heavy! You sure you got some spices in there? Wonder what kind of spices are used in their cuisine. Perhaps it’s reduced/eliminated for the tourists! Anthony Bourdain will probably have a long, serious description. Definitely use a lot of fish & not chicken or beef.
yes, the massage, great you experienced the benefits.
About that swimming… you can do that, too. And then, scuba diving….

  4. By the way, those trees- that’s part of the resort? Such thick growth! Have you seen seen any animals- say rabbits, squirrels. And what kind of birds have you seen /heard? Doubt that you’ll see any deer. Any type of special vegetable native to the area you have come across?
